Cammed Mechanism to Open and Close the Cover of a Printer

    Portable printers are typically equipped with a hinged cover that encloses a cavity configured to hold a supply of media for use by the printer. Embodiments of portable printers typically employ a button, depressed by a user, to disengage the printhead from the platen and to allow the hinged cover to open and allow the platen to be removed.

    The present invention allows the hinged cover of a portable printer to be opened without the depression of a button while still disengaging the platen roller from the print head.

    Figures 1a and 1b depict a portable printer which may employ embodiments of the present invention. Figure 2 depicts the internal components of the printer of Figure 1 relevant to the present invention. The interface between the Platen Roller and the Printhead is shown within circle A.
