This invention uses swellable material to wrap around Formation Junction, once the tool is run to the place and its crushed lateral leg is reformed, the swellable material swells under the influence of well fluids to seal off the annular areas where lateral well bore meets a parent well bore.

Patent application US 2008/0290603 proposes to wrap swellable element over a piece of pipe for the use of zone isolation. Although multilateral wells offer advantages over conventional vertical wells, they also involve greater complexity, which may pose additional challenges. One such challenges involves sealing junctions of well bores in the multilateral well system. There are many different ways disclosed to achieve this goal, such as the patent application US 2005/0159319 to inject sealing composition around the area. This invention uses the proven swellable material technology and applies it over the formed Formation Junction. Once the tool is run to the position, a swaging tool is run to reform the crushed lateral leg exactly like the existing tool running procedure. After the deployment, the swellable material swells under the influence of the downhole fluids and completely seals off the junction area.
