Abstract

Central operation centers are the main control entities in an automated control system for railways. The central operation centers ensure the safe operation of rail vehicles via an extensive data communication to the local operation centers. The described network structure is disadvantageous because the customers need only the local operation centers. Furthermore, the used systems as well as software have to be installed redundantly.

Therefore, a novel network structure is proposed in which the functionalities of the central operation centers such as dispatching, emergency management, routing or timetable management are assigned to local operation centers. The local operation centers act thereby as distributed and communicating agents. It is proposed to use multi-directional communication between the agents to solve global problems such as dispatching across several local agents. The communication can be established wireless or wired. It is also proposed to use dynamic load balance method for the communication between the agents. Furthermore, the local operation centers, that are the agents, can act in stand-by mode for other local centers. To implement the proposed solution, the local operation centers sho...
