Method and System for Automatically Changing Alignment of a Display Based on a User's Physical Posture

Disclosed is a method and system for automatically changing alignment of a display on a display device based on a user's physical posture relative to the display device. The display device may be, for example, but is not limited to, a mobile phone, a smart phone, a display monitor, a personal digital assistant, a tablet PC, a notebook PC and a digital photo frame. In addition to the user's physical posture, physical alignment of a display device relative to the horizon may also be taken into account by the method and system in order to automatically change the alignment of the display.

The method and system includes detecting physical alignment of the display device relative to the horizon. A change in physical alignment of the display device is detected based on signals received from an accelerometer present in the display device. Whereas, change in the physical posture of the user is detected by using a camera present in the display device. The camera may detect the positions of the user's eyes in relation to the display device to determine the user's physical posture.

For example, the camera may identify the user's eyes as two points and a distance between the two eyes as a line between the eyes. When the line is in a horizontal position in relation to the bottom side of the display device, it may be assumed that the user is in a vertical physical posture i....
