PSA seal shoe

Technical Bulletin - (Nov., 2010)

3M embossed carrier tapes and cover tapes are designed and manufactured to follow the industry standard EIA Specification. The cover tape is sealed on the top of embossed carrier tape to ensure electronic component is able to be transported without failure or in the semiconductor and electronic industry. The cover tape is categorized as HAA (Heat Activated Adhesive) and PSA (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive *) cover tape.

Both categories of cover tape require different sealing parameters to perform the sealing tasks listed below:

HAA cover tape: Require 180°C ~ 240°C to seal up with carrier tape
PSA cover tape: Require no heat to seal up with carrier tape (Or called cold seal cover tape)

3M Universal Cover Tape (UCT) is categorized in the PSA cover tape cold seal series. A normal practice to have a better sealing of UCT is to request existing HAA (Heat Activated Adhesive) cover tape users to change the sealing shoe from HAA enabled version to PSA enabled version.
