Dual Split Clamp Internal Coupler Protection Apparatus

The problem solved is to protect a delicate and expensive coupler attached to an expensive piece of acoustical lab equipment. The solution is applicable to other types of similar couplers.

The core idea is to utilize the internal space between two attached split-end tube couplers to protect and stress-relieve an entity (coupling). The idea is to utilize a hollow tube such that one end receives the portion of the device to be relieved from strain, while the opposite end receives a second portion of the device to be relieved of strain. With both ends of the device strain- relieved, the connection between the first portion and second portion of the device is immovable within the coupler.

In a typical embodiment, the invention protects a connecting coupler that attaches an omnidirectional acoustic dipole microphone probe to the coupler at the cable end. The cable end is attached to a fiber optic coupler. The invention relieves the strain on the coupler from both the motion of the microphone and the motion of the fiber optic cable.
