Alarm systems (such as fire, or security alarms) provide audible and visual alarms. However, hearing impaired people are sometimes unable to spot visual alarms during the day (since the flashing lights may not be strong visible in sunlight).

    Additionally, in situations where the subject is emitting (or indeed, absorbing) different wavelengths of light quite rapidly, it is difficult for a person to take a picture manually when the subject is of specific colour.

    The present disclosure is to take one or more pictures when the frequency (or wavelength) of light emitted (or reflected) by the subject in the field of view of the camera changes according to a pre-defined threshold.

    This allows the exact moment to be captured when an event takes place which triggers, for example, a sensor (such as a fire alarm, or a traffic signal).

    This could be used by photographers to capture a specific moment, or as an external add-on to closed loop systems (such as alarm systems) to invoke external automation. For example, a camera using the present disclosure could take a picture when the fire alarm goes off, and integrate with external systems to email everyone on site.

    The present invention utilises the wavelength of the light emitted or absorbed by the subject in the field-of-view of the camera. The wavelength of light received from the subject is compared with the values received in the previous cycle, and one or more pictures are taken.
