Disclosed is a method and system for an Instant Messenger (IM) integrated with business or enterprise applications to enable employees of an enterprise to carry out enterprise functions. Fig. 1 illustrates an exemplary architecture for implementing the method and system disclosed herein.

As illustrated in Fig. 1, the architecture for implementing the method and system includes an end user interfacing with an XMPP server, a XMPP IM bot within the XMPP server, a web application server interfacing with the XMPP server, a web application interfacing with the web application server and an enterprise application interfacing with the web application.

In an instance, an IM bot is displayed on an IM application interface used by the employees. This enables the employees to interact with the IM bot. The IM bot name may indicate a purpose for which the IM bot is to be used for in an enterprise. For example, the IM bot named "leaveapplication@bot.enterprise

_name.com" may be used

in the enterprise for leave application and processing of the leave application. Similarly, IM bots may be created for various other enterprise functions, such as, time booking, etc.

Further, an endpoint URL of the web application is entered by a developer in IM bot

settings to indicate the web application that interfaces with the IM bot. Also, the web application may be developed using a web scripting language that has a business logic that enables the interaction between the IM bot and the employees. The business logic for the IM bot is coded using API's provided by a business IM Integration framework to send and receive messages from the IM bot as well as to manage an application state. The business logic may also have a code to integrate with any of a central enterprise System such as ERP, CRM, HCM, etc. to query or update information. The method and system may also include Natural Language Processing APIs to enable the IM bot to parse and understand human spoken/written language used by the users.

Use of the method and system in leave application function of the enterprise is explained in conjunction with Fig. 2 through Fig. 8. Fig. 2 through Fig. 8 illustrate the interaction between the enterprise leave application IM bot and an employee for approval of a leave request.
