Disclosed is a method and system for automatically updating information regarding machines required for test cases/defects. The method automatically updates machine details information in the defect/test case whenever the developer/tester works on the defect/test case. The machine is obtained from cloud. The updated information is notified to a user (tester/developer) through alternate communication channels such as, an email, an instant messenger, a social network, feeds etc, based on a configuration detail. This is illustrated in fig. 1.

Based on a current working state, a status is associated with respect to a machine by the user (tester/developer). For example, the user may set the status as "working" for the duration while the user is working on the machine. Thus, when a developer or a tester right clicks the defect/test case and changes the status to "working", the change in machine information is updated in the defect/test case. When the machine's debugging session is not running or a test case is not executing, the resources are released back to cloud. Many times, developers and testers provide false information to hold machines. This puts a lot of strain on the hardware resources that are available and provisioned. However, by monitoring the usage of the machine and status of the defect/test case, the resources can be released back to the cloud for efficient usage.
