Method And System For Advertising Based On User's Browsing Behavior Across Windows/Tabs

A method and system for advertising based on a user's browsing behavior across windows/tab of a web browser is disclosed. The user's browsing behavior across the windows/tabs is analyzed to determine the user's current interest. The analysis of the browsing behavior across windows/tabs may include, but is not limited to, content displayed in one or more windows/tabs of the web browser. Additionally, the browsing behavior may also include, without limitation, the time spent by the user viewing a window/tab and the frequency of viewing a window/tab in a time duration. Based on the analysis, the user's current interest is determined. The user's current interest is represented in the form of one or more keywords. Subsequently, the one or more keywords are used to select relevant advertisements which are then presented to the user.

In order to determine the user's current interest, in an embodiment, a web browser may monitor the user's browsing behavior across windows/tabs of the web browser. For instance, the browser may monitor the number of windows/tabs that are currently open. Further, the browser may also analyze the contents present in the windows/tabs that are currently opened. Subsequent to analyzing the contents, one or more keywords may be identified corresponding to each window/tab that is open. Additionally, the browser may also monitor the sequence in which the user navigates across the windows/tabs. Based on such monitoring of the user's browsing behavior, the one or more keywords may be sorted according to a priority. For instance, keywords corresponding to a window/tab that was recently viewed by the user may be given higher importance in representing the user's current interest. In another instance, a window/tab that was viewed most frequently within a time duration may be given higher importance. As a result, an ordered list of one or more keywords representing the user' s current interest and the corresponding window/tab identifier is generated based on the user's browsing behavior across windows/tabs.

Subsequently, the ordered list of one or more keywords and the corresponding window/tab identifier is used in determining a relevant advertisement to be served to the user. In an embodiment, when a user opens a new window/tab and issues a web request, the web browser appends the ordered list of one or more keywords and the corresponding window/tab identif...
