Background of the Invention:

Digital Substation is undergoing rapid growth in response to the needs for Interoperability and cost reducing. IEC61850 standard is the based of Digital Substation, which defines the communication of whole substation automation. In process level, process bus (IEC61850-9-2 and GOOSE will be the protocols) is used to exchange information between IEDs (including protection relay, MU, BIED). The Figure 1 shows the process level communication network for 500 kV transformer protection (500 kV bus scheme with one and half breaker).

Statement of the Problem:

However, considering the reliability requirement of high voltage protection and the traffic load constrain, some utilities prefer to utilize point-to-point architecture, as shown in Figure 2. The point-to-point topology is conflict with IEC61850 standard, which is to exchange information with network.

Description of the Invention:

What is claimed in this invention disclosure is the following:

1. Process level communication network which utilizing HSR to unify the process bus and point- to-point architecture with required performance.

2. Communication network dividing method to divide the whole network into suitable number of sub-networks.

3. Communication interface of IEDs which satisfy the requirement of mentioned process level communication network.

Process level communication network architecture

High voltage protection needs reliable communication link with seamless switching capability. IEC62439 proposes several reliable communication methods, HSR is one of practical protocols.. The principle of HSR, as shown in Figure 3 is that 'Nodes are arranged as a ring, each node has two identical interfaces, port A and port B. For each frame to send ("C"-frame), the source node sends two copies over port A and B. Each node relays a frame it receives from port A to port B and vice-versa, except if it already forwarded it.
