Pre-patch Assessment and Control for Smarter Patch Management

At present, patch management tools simply try to provide users a more convenient method to perform patches. They do not have the applicability analysis module which has the ability to determine the safety levels of the patch actions. In addition, patch installation itself might pose some risks.

The disclosed invention for control software addresses the problems posed by this situation. The application for control software controls and restricts patch installation to reduce the patch installation risk after the patch server has analyzed the applicability of the patch. The purpose of the control software is to:
1. Scan the patch installation information
2. Determine the risk of patch installation through applicability analysis data
3. Monitor related processes

The system overview and process for implementation follows:
1. Add the forbidden application (patch information in details) list at the patch server.

2. Install the control tool in the client, which is managed by the patch server. That synchronizes the forbidden application list with the patch server when there is any update for patch assessment.

3. When the user installs a new application on the server, the control tool automatically monitors the installation action. Simultaneously, the control tool pauses the new installation process and locates the file path of the process and process information in details (e.g., manufacturer, version, application...
