A method and system is disclosed for dynamically generating additional/supplemental contextual tags for content of a web page. The additional/supplemental tags are then added to a tag cloud of the web page.

Once a user navigates to a web page, the system detects a tag cloud (as shown in fig.1) on the web page, links and external content.

In an exemplary embodiment, the system may ignore links or media on a web page outside the body of the web page. Further, the system may leverage a blacklist, content filter or "robots.txt" to ignore certain content links or limit to certain domains. Additionally, the system may be scoped to the current focus on the section of a web page.

Accordingly, the system creates a list of links and external content associated with the web page. In case there are no links and external content associated with the web page, the system does not generate any additional/supplemental tags for the web page.

However, when there are links and external content associated with the web page, the system performs a HEAD operation to get metadata for each link. In an instance, if the HEAD operation does not yield any metadata, the system processes content for obtaining the metadata for each link.
