Abstract

Ultra low turning radius for off road vehicles is a mechanism to operate left and right brakes independently while turning to achieve very small turning radius. This mechanism will get commands from steering wheel sensor to operate the brakes independently. When the steering wheel turned to right, right brakes will be applied and when steering wheel is turned to left, left brakes will be applied. A mechanism is conceived to assist off road vehicles (specifically agricultural tractors) to achieve low turning radius. This mechanism is an integrated system with vehicle steering. When steering is turned a sensor (mechanical/electronic/electric/hydraulic) will sense direction of turning and provide inputs to processor (mechanical /electronic/ electric/ hydraulic). The processor will command mechanism (mechanical /electronic /electric/ hydraulic) which will operate independent brakes wheels/tracks which is on side of turning direction. The vehicle will achieve turning. Once turn is complete the steering sensor will again sense the position of steering wheel and disengage the brakes. The processor will also control the amount of braking based on degree of turn on the steering wheel.
