Abstract:

Move reformer fuel preheat gas-gas heat exchanger down stream of its CPO and upstream of the desulfurizer to minimize sulfur contamination

 

Disclosure:

Fuel Processing Systems (FPS) may have an inherent risk of sulfur contamination, due to leaks in the reformer fuel preheat gas-gas heat exchanger, which is located in the reformer stream downstream of the High Temperature Shift Converter (HTSC).

To mitigate this problem, the reformer fuel preheat gas-gas heat exchanger is moved downstream of the 1st CPO, upstream of the Desulfurizer bed, as seen in the Figure.

This does away with the potential damage caused by a sulfur leak for the fuel preheat heat exchanger.  An additional benefit is that the Hydrogen Desulfurizer could be a simple absorbent bed since the organic sulfur compounds will be broken down and converted to HCS by the 1st CPO.
