Abstract

Any IT rack (such as system Z or Power high end) has a specific management console or integrated computer in the frame to be able to manage or update the machine configuration. This specific computer, called HMC, has a fixed position, which is not accessible to disabled people or might be not appropriate for tall people. Introduce a new design with a vertical rail added (in addition to the current horizontal one), so that we get the flexibility in both axes for the HMC. This article demonstrates by example engagement with disabled people. It will also help the technician who need to access different part of the rack, providing better working conditions.

Smart and accessible HMC

Any IT rack (such as system Z or Power high end) has a specific management console or integrated computer in the frame to be able to manage or update the machine configuration. This specific computer, called HMC, has a fixed position, which is not accessible to disabled people or might be not appropriate for tall people.

Proposed solution provides the right flexibility to access to the laptop so that the user can use it at a flexible height. Not only we get access to the disabled people in a wheel chair, but also a much more comfortable position to any people who need to get access to this HMC : get comfortable as you work. It will also help the people who need to access different part of the rack and the move of the HMC will provide better access to all the rack.

Our proposal can be quite easily implemented. Detailed pictures joined to the current proposal illustrates the HMC MODULABLE patent proposal.

We introduce a new design with a vertical rail added (in addition to the current horizontal one), so that we get the flexibility in both axes for the HMC.

This article demonstrates by example engagement with disabled people. It will also help the technician who need to access different part of the rack, providing better working conditions.
