Abstract

This article exposes a cache mechanism for web resource access and management. This mechanism adopts a method to group the resource, and control the update process of cache between client and server based on the status of the specific group of resource. It will improve the efficiency of cache usage and reduce the network traffic for web application which involves large resources which are being used by different categories based on different business requirements.

Current web cache mechanism updates web resources for individual resource. For example,

them will send a independent request to server for update every a period of time(expire time), if the request time interval is 5 seconds and there are 100 resources included in current page which were cached in local disk. Then, every 5 seconds, no matter there is any update on server side or not, 100 requests(conditional get)

will be submitted from local browser to server. If there are only no resource update or very few of resources updated on server side,

most of requests are redundant. We can improve this kind of cache mechanism to reduce the request traffic between client and server.

The core idea of invention is to:
1. Group the resource on server side, and manage and monitor version of the resources by group,
2. Notify client the latest information of group version in the first client request of each cache group, and client will make decision on if or not sending out request to server for the follow up resource requests at browser side according to the latest information of resource group.

The advantage is that:
1. Server will help client to manage and provide update information of resource group.
2. Client can improve the efficiency of request according to the update information of resource group provided by server. It's possible to reduce the redundant requesting if local resource was already updated to the latest resource group.
