Abstract

A wireless X-ray detector system enabled with at least two wireless communication radios is disclosed. The wireless detector involves at minimum, a low bandwidth, low power, long range radio as well as a high bandwidth, moderate power, short range radio for image transfer. The low bandwidth, low power, long range radio enables real time exchange of control data and power management. The high bandwidth, moderate power, short range radio shall sustain a high data communication rates for image transfer.

FIELD OF INVENTION

The invention generally relates to a wireless X-ray detector and more particularly to radio enabled wireless X-ray detector system.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Generally, a wireless detector assembly involves an X-ray detector and a host controller paired to the X-ray detector. The host controller is provided to control the detector and format images retrieved from the detector for wireless transmission. The wireless detector assembly also involves a wireless transmission device for transmitting the image data wirelessly and a power storage device which provides power to all the components of the detector assembly. A user interface is also provided with the host controller that receives image data from the detector through the wireless transmission device.

A conventional portable wireless X-ray detector system involves a single wireless interface to communicate both control information as well as bulk image data transfer for images. The wireless detector system is enabled with a radio. The radio is typically designed using a higher output power technology such as 802.11abgn (Wi-Fi) or short range, high bandwidth technology such as ultra wide band in order to sustain high data transfer rates. Both technologies are good at high data rate communications, however, these high bandwidth technologies require high power and/or have shorter range that is not suitable for some workflow needs.

Therefore, there is a need in the art for a wireless detector system that provides wireless communication of control information at lower power and/or longer range to supplement the current high bandwidth link.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

A wireless X-ray detector system enabled with at least one wireless communication radio is disclosed. For example, a low speed, long range, low power radio is used for real time exchange of control data. Further, to sustain high data communication rates, a high speed, short range, moderate power radio is used.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The proposed invention is to use a low power, low bandwidth. radio for exchange of control information such as battery status, wireless range information, unique identity exchange/detector association information, synchronization of x-ray exposure, image recovery hand shaking with host in the event of high bandwidth link wireless failure, exchange of encryption tokens, channel allocation/shari...
