In case of wind power plants, the achievable power output can be increased to a level higher than the nominal value, if the wind is sufficiently strong and stable.

If the wind power plant is installed on a site with very stable wind direction and speed, there will frequently be no need for pitching the blades or yawing the rotor. Therefore, it proposed that the non- used power which is dedicated for the yawing system and the hydraulic pitch pump is also fed into the network in order to boost the power output of the power plant to a higher level than the nominal power output. The components of the power plant like e. g. the generator, the cables or the converter are all designed to transfer enough power to export nominal power while the auxiliary equipment of the plant can also be supplied with power simultaneously. Since the step-up transformer of the turbine is designed to handle nominal power even at 10 percent under voltage, it will also be able to handle more than nominal power when running at nominal voltage of 690 V. For this proposal it is required that the wind turbine control software also monitors whether the yaw motors and hydraulics are running or not. This additional feature can be implemented by a software upgrade.
