Method and System for Exchanging and Trading Online Coupons

Abstract

A method and system for exchanging and trading online coupons using an interface is disclosed.  The online coupons are evaluated and users looking to exchange or trade the online coupons are matched.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for exchanging and trading online coupons.  In an example, the online coupons may be used for availing a discount or a deal while purchasing a product or a service.

In today's digital marketplace, there is an explosion of online deals and coupons. However, users of coupons frequently find it difficult to use the online deals and coupons within a limited time frame, causing the online deals or coupons to expire.

The method and system allows a user to exchange or trade online coupons using an interface.  For example, the user may exchange or trade online coupons using a social networking website or a web portal.  On accessing the interface, the user provides credentials of an online coupon for exchanging or trading the online coupon.  In an alternative instance, an online coupon provider may also be allowed to directly use the interface for trading online coupons.

In a scenario where the user is interested in exchanging the online coupon, interested parties may be identified for exchanging the online coupon of the user.  For example, three users with "Best Buy" coupons, who would like to exchange them for a "Lowe's gardening" coupon, are identified.  These users may then be allowed to negotiate while exchanging the online coupons.  In a scenario where the user is interested to sell the online coupon, the user provides the credentials of the online coupon on the interface.  The interface identifies interested parties for purchasing the online coupon and broadcasts the credentials of the online coupon to them.  For example, the user wishes to sell a "Best Buy" coupon.  The interface identifies interested parties for purchasing the online coupon of the user and completes the transaction.  Similarly, when the user intends to purchase an online coupon for an online deal, the user discloses an interest for the online coupon at the interface.  The user provides the online coupons or cash for exchanging or trading the online coupon.  The interface then matches the user with relevant online coupons available for exchange or trade.  The interface then categorizes online coupons collated from all over the internet into various categories as advertised by users who want to trade them.  Hence, users planning to purchase a product online may visit the interface for finding an online coupon.

On providing the credentials of the online coupon for exchange or trade, the value of the online coupon is evaluated and matching users for exchanging or trading the online coupon are identified.  The users may also provide an expected value for the online coupon.  An algorithm is used for evaluating the online coupon based on factors such as, hi...
