Provided is a process for preparing amorphous(E)-4-{[4-({4-[(E)-2-cyanovinyl]-2,6- dimethylphenyl}amino)pyrimidin-2-yl]amino}benzonitrile.

1 g of (E)-4-{[4-({4-[(E)-2-cyanovinyl]-2,6-dimethylphenyl}amino)pyrimidin-2- yl]amino}benzonitrile HCl was dissolved in 20 ml of 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol at 25°C. The resulting solution was filtered to remove any foreign particles present, and the filtrate was spray-dried in a Buchi Mini spray drier 290 at 120°C to form (E)-4-{[4- ({4-[(E)-2-cyanovinyl]-2,6-dimethylphenyl}amino)pyrimidin-2- yl]amino}benzonitrile HCl Amorphous (60-70%).

The X-ray powder diffractogram of the obtained solid is presented in figure 1. The sharp peak at about 28.5° is attributed to silicon powder added as internal standard.
