E-mail allows individuals and groups to interact amongst themselves as needed. However, there are many occasions where it is appropriate or necessary for one or more individuals to oversee the communications. For example:


• Several inexperienced developers are interacting with one another and decide to take development of a product in a different direction, which is not the best course for the project. If the product architect has been reading the email thread (even every third or fourth message) then they could have avoided the problem. It would be beneficial if there was a system that only allowed prolonged interactions with the knowledge of the architect.


• UserA and UserB are having difficulty working with each other. The Human Resources department becomes involved and requests that there be no prolonged discussions without the manager involved. It would be beneficial if there was a system that only allowed prolonged interactions with the knowledge of the manager.

Problems such as these can be quite frustrating to the user and the business; trying to address this problem, if done manually, can be difficult, time consuming and repetitive. An autonomic functionality to manage the interactions amongst users (e.g., manage/constrain the interactions) is needed.

Prior art related to this area includes:
