Disclosed is a method and system for enhancing keystroke based authentication by adding multiple password encryption dimensions.

The disclosed method and system enhances keystroke based authentication by adding multiple password encryption dimensions. The dimensions may include, but are not limited to, the pressure applied for each keystroke by an individual, time for which an individual key is pressed and pressing a second key, while holding the first key. The disclosed method and system may account for the time interval of one or more keystrokes after holding a first key. Further, the method and system may use one or more combinations of the aforementioned dimensions to enhance keystroke based authentication.

In an exemplary embodiment, the disclosed method and system may account for the pressure applied for one or more keystrokes by an individual for enhancing keystroke based authentication. The method and system may be implemented using pressure sensitive pads. Individuals may press the keys of a pressure sensitive pad with varying pressures. The probability that two individuals press a combination of a password with the same pressure applied on the keys of the keypad is very low. The method and system may indicate the pressure applied by displaying the letters in bold for user's reference, if the pressure applied is relatively higher than the pressure applied while pressing other keys in the password.

In another exemplary embodiment, the disclosed method and system may consider one or more time intervals corresponding to one or more keys of the keypad being pressed as a dimension for keystroke based authentication. The method and system may record the duration for which one or more keys are pressed while entering a password for the first time. Subsequently, when the password is entered the next time, a user may be authenticated when the duration for which the one or more keys are pressed matches with a previously recorded duration. In another embodiment, a threshold may be defined for the interval of one or more keystrokes being held. A user may be authenticated if the one or more keystrokes is held greater than or equal to the threshold. Further, the method and system may indicate the dimension by displaying the value of the keystroke in italics for user's reference if the key was pressed for a longer duration of time.

In yet another exemplary embodiment, the disclosed method and system may consider pressing one or more keys in the keypad while holding a first key as a dimension for keystroke based authentication. The one or more keystrokes pressed after holding a first key may be associated with one or more parameters that may be related to the password.
