Disclosed is a method and system for planning a shopping trip for a user.

The method and system disclosed herein crawls through websites corresponding to one or more retailers to collect information regarding prices of products, discounts, etc. Additionally, personalized discounts and deals offered by retailers based on the user's membership with the retailers are also identified. Subsequently, a shopping profile is created for the user. The shopping profile may contain information such as a list of retailers preferred by the user, number of shopping hops that the user wishes to make in order to complete shopping, a minimum percentage of shopping that the user should cover, and a tolerance threshold for prices of products. Further, the retailer promotional offers are tracked in real time and maintained in the shopping profile of the user. The retailer promotional offers include the personalized discounts and deals offered by retailers.

The user creates a list of products to be purchased from different retailers. The user may also provide discount coupons corresponding to one or more retailers and products. Further, the user may specify a set of overriding parameters. For example, the user may specify that the user wishes to visit not more than three retailers or travel not more than twenty five miles in order to complete the shopping. The user may also set a tolerance threshold of ten dollars more than the specified minimum price levels. The tolerance threshold is considered along with the parameters provided by the user to providing a plan for the shopping trip.
