Abstract

SNA communication at ethernet environment identifies the destination node with MAC address and SAP. The issues have occurred because only one MAC address can be used for sharing OSA between LPARs. This function resolves those issues by adding the ability that converts MAC address and SAP in the switching hub.

SNA Destination Address(MAC+SAP) Translation Function

802.3 with LLC format is generally used for SNA communication at ethernet environment. 802.3 with LLC format has 802.2 LLC that defines SAP (Service Access Point: Destination Service Access Point and Source Service Access Point).

SNA communication identifies the destination node with MAC address and SAP.

The cisco router for channel connection has the function that defines the multiple logical adapters that simulate NIC.

Each logical adapter has the different MAC address.

On the other hand, OSA (Open Systems Adapter) of IBM host can be defined only one MAC address per port for SNA connection.

OSA can be shared between LPARs with using the different SAP.

Only OSA can be used for host connection after the sale of the cisco channel adapter stopped.

The following issues have occurred because one MAC address can be used for sharing OSA between LPARs.

ISSUE① OSA for each destination MAC address(DMAC) is required.
or
ISSUE② Destination MAC(DMAC) and Destination SAP(DSAP) must be changed at the terminal for sharing OSA between LPARs.

Thin function adds the ability that converts MAC and SAP in the switching hub. This function solves the previous ISSUE ① and ISSUE ②.

This function is following. (please refer the attached document for the detail)

② If the combination of DMAC and DSAP in the received packet is found in the target A column in SNA conversion table, it...
