A method and system for providing personalized search results to a user.  The method enables the user to create a search list including one or websites selected by the user.  The personalized search results are then given to the user in response to a search conducted only in the one or more websites.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for providing personalized search results to a user.  The method and system disclosed herein enables a user to select one or more websites to create a search list.  Then a search is conducted only in the one or more websites based on a user input.  Instances of one or more websites may be saved as categories. The search list may be associated with an online user profile corresponding to the user.  In an instance, the search list can be stored as part of the online user profile.  The one or more websites may be selected by the user based on the significance of these websitesThe search lists created by the user may be shared with other users.  The search lists that are shared with other users are displayed to these users when searches are performed by other users.  The search results may be displayed to other users based on usage.  In an instance, the search list may be marked as private or public when shared with other users.  In another scenario, related search lists may be displayed to the user and combined with earlier created search lists.  In yet another instance, the user may download search lists from other users and may combine them with earlier created search lists.  

For example, the user may add multiple websites under different categories, then select which category of one or more websites to use in executing the search, by choosing the category from a “pull down list” as shown below.
