Children can manipulate the settings of the hearing instrument accidently, for example by using the push buttons for volume control, which might be very harmful. Thus, there are several solutions to avoid the manipulation of hearing aid settings by children, for example by disabling the volume control or child lock for the battery door.

Hearing instruments for children are subject to additional eligibility criteria. Children can manipulate the settings of the hearing instrument accidently, for example by using the push buttons for volume control, which might be very harmful. Thus, there are several solutions to avoid the manipulation of hearing aid settings by children, for example by disabling the volume control or child lock for the battery door.

In the following it is proposed to introduce a fingerprint recognition scanner into the hearing instrument to control and lock the settings by the parents. To change any settings of the hearing instrument the user has to unlock this feature by sliding a finger over the fingerprint recognition screen, as shown in Figure 1. After unlocking, for example the volume control or other program changes can be adjusted as normal. To lock theses settings the fingerprint recognition screen is used again. The locking and unlocking process can be attended by any sounds, like beeps. The registration of fingerprints which are allowed to unlock the hearing aid can be done while the hearing instrument is initially programmed by the audiologist. If a touch screen is used as a c...
