Abstract

This invention proposes a new computer human interaction approach which is called virtual eye contacting. More practically, it records a live video of human face as input. Then, the eye area is identified. Following that, different eye status is recognized and used to control a computer. Note that the computer here can be replaced with any other electronic devices with a camera.

With the fast development of electronic technologies, more and more Computer Human Interaction (CHI) technologies are available today. Most of existing technologies are interacted with user's hands (fingers). Figure 1 lists the most popular CHI devices, i.e., the keyboard, mouse of a computer, and the touch screen of mobile devices.

While the above technologies achieve great success, hand based approach is not always the most convenient way for interaction. For example, voice-based approach has been recently proposed to free human's hands. In certain occasions, both hand based approach and voice based approach can not work. For example, when someone is taking rest and nourishment to regain his/her health in hospital and want to read a book or see a movie via computer in the patient bed.
