An Electronic System for Document Verification

BACKGROUND

[0001]The invention relates generally to electronic system for document verification. In particular, the invention relates to the provision of creating, storing, and verifying documents electronically.

[0002]Generally, universities/organizations (both government and non-governmental) issue documents like certificate, license, insurance certificate, property deed document, job offer letter etc. as a hard copy (i.e. on paper). Currently these documents are verified manually. Manual verification of documents requires substantial effort and cost on the part of both person/organization verifying them and those getting the documents verified. For example, it is a cumbersome process to go to a university and request the authorities to verify the data of a student who passed the university exam 20 years before. This requires substantial administration effort by the university too.

[0003]Further, the system is prone to a lot of fraud practices. The fraud can be either by the person/organization in whose name the document is to be verified or by the verifying authority. For example a person can forge college director's signature on his mark sheet. It is a burdensome process to verify the forged mark sheet. Such fraud practices may cost billions to organizations. Additionally, issuing documents in hard copy leads to paper wastage.

[0004]There is a general need to provide an easy, economical, paperless, transparent and fool proof system for verifying documents. Such a system could be useful for the verifying authority, person/organization whose credentials need to be verified and also for the organization which request for verification.

[0005]While there may exist some system for creating and storing documents online. Though, a system for verifying these online documents may not be presently implemented. Accordingly, there is a need for an electronic system for creating, storing and verifying documents, which provides all of the facilities mentioned above.
