Provide a method and apparatus for routing a communication to the devices which are more possibility to reached in Unified Communication system by leveraging the short distance wireless technology, to detect the nearby communication end point, and leverage this information to make smarter decision for next communication approach.

Disclosed is a method and apparatus for routing a communication to the devices with more possibility to reached in Unified Communication system. There is a routing engine to set up call between caller and callee communication devices based on the most possible reachable devices. By detecting which devices are nearby the "No answer" device, it will make smarter decision that not deliver the call to these devices for next communication approach.


1.1 Background

Modern man is part of a highly connected communication network. He can be reached through a wide variety of communication mechanisms. Most people have more than one contact number; and even many people have more than one mobile phone/mobile number (for different usage situation or package )

Although a person typically has multiple communication devices, that person may have access to only a subset of them at a particular time. Hence, a unified communication system that allows a person to communicate using the most convenient device at the time will enhance user experience and offer more opportunities for collaboration.

Unified communication already become the part of real world. User could communicate by Instant Massager, Telephone, Mobile, IP Phone in a easy and smooth way.

Wifi and Bluetooth become standard capability for most of the portable devices, such as Notebook, Flat-computer, Smart Mobile Phone, etc

Term from Wikimedia : Unified communications (UC) is the integration of real-time communication services such as instant messaging (chat), presence information, telephony (including IP telephony), video conference, data sharing(including web connected electronic whiteboards aka SMARTBoards), call control and speech recognition with non-real-time communication services such as unified messaging (integrated voicemail, e-mail, SMS and fax). UC is not a single product, but a set of products that provides a consistent unified user interface and user experience across multiple devices and media types


1.2 What's the problem


1.2.1 User case - 1

Judy subscribe as service from communication provider, as "One number", then she can get a unique number (like 1234567890), she config a set of number which could contact her with sequence(Mobile Number-1, Mobile Number-2, Home Phone, Office Phone). Her friends can call the "One number" (like 1234567890), then the UC Managerwill try to call her preferred number; if there is no answer, the UC Managerwill try to

call second preferred number; then 3rd, etc.

But, the number sequence was fixed, and her situation was dynamic. We had to wait a long time to get the right communication connect. For example, her sequence was (Mobile Number-1, Mobile Number-2, Home Phone, Office Phone), and she forget her bag in home. Other people had to wait for Mobile Number-1, Mobile Number-2, Home Phone, then reach her by Office Phone. If there could be a genius to tell the communication event...
