Abstract

In various medical areas diagnostic imaging is used by e.g. a physician to examine parts of the human body. Thereby, such images are often shown in form of slices within a healthcare software application, usually displayed in segments. To load image data into such an application, the user has to select the appropriate data from a list in the GUI (Graphical User Interface) and drag and drop this data to the desired segment of the application software. Thereby, only the name of the data roles, meaning the specific identification of the image sequence, is displayed in the list. So it is difficult to find the data the user is interested in. If the user wants to see the image of the specific data role before dragging and dropping into a segment of the GUI, he has to double click on the data role name and the image will be shown in a dynamic segment for preview. Within the dynamic segment the user can see all images of the series by using the scrolling function. This procedure has to be repeated until the user finds the requested image. Double clicking on each data role name for selecting the right image is very tedious and time consuming. Furthermore, it is difficult to know which images are already loaded in the current task.

In the following it is proposed to solve the mentioned problems by adding a new function into the health care application, here for example called "Image Viewer". The proposed Image Viewer displays all stack of images, which are loaded in the application, instead of the data role names (Figure 1).
