Method and System for Processing Bill Payments and Exception Handling Based On User Set Rules

Disclosed is a method and system for processing a bill payment and handling the exceptions in the bill payment system based on the predefined rules set by the user. The predefined rules may include, but are not limited to, parameters such as a payer, a payment range in amount, a billed amount, and an average of historic billed amount over an 'x' period of time. The method and system enables performing the bill payment if the predefined rules are satisfied or otherwise notifying the user about remedial actions to be taken. The remedial actions may include, but are not limited to, alerting the user for minimum payment due, seeking permission for continuing with the bill payment and cancellation of the scheduled bill payment.

In an embodiment, the user may select payees who may send online bills to the user. The online bills may be set for automatic processing through the system. The bill payment may be scheduled to be received on or before the due date. The user may set rules for payment of received bill. The predefined rules set by the user may include, but are not limited to, the bill payment for a range of expected bill amount, and an average of historic billed amount over an 'x' period of time. If the predefined rules are valid then the bill payment may be processed. The notifications sent to the user when the predefined rules are valid may include, but not limited to, an acknowledgement of the receipt of the bill paid by the user, a scheduled date for next month bill and a minimum payment due for the next month. If one or more of the predefined set of rules are not valid, then the user may be notified periodically until actions on the bill payment are taken by the user. The notifications sent to the user when the predefined rules are not valid may include, but are not limited to, cancellation of the scheduled bill payment, seeking permission to continue with the bill payment and alerting the user for minimum bill payment. The notifications may be performed by many ways including, but not limited to, emails, text messages and phone calls. The system may notify the user mentioning the violation of the predefined rules set and indicating the amount of due payment. The system may provide one or more options, such as cancellation of the automatic bill payment, permission for continuing with the bill payment, and permission for minimu...
