Abstract

Cut sheet production printers have multiple paper supply trays to feed cut sheets of paper into the print engine. In some cases there are two trays located one above the other. This idea proposes that this two tray system be converted into a single tray high capacity feed module. The one tray high capacity feeder could be a cost savings to the manufacturer which it could pass on to its customers. The new larger tray would use the existing frame and only require one feeder tray. The feeder elevator motor may need to be reconfigured to support more than double the amount of paper. The paper would be loaded in manually. The feeder tray would lower/raise to a set point which was comfortable with the operator, so that when paper is removed or loaded the tray elevator would automatically adjust the feeder tray to the set point. This would then benefit the operator so they were not doing so much "bending" of the back when loading or removing paper from the tray. The idea is the same as with office printers that may have up to five trays and the most used paper stock is put into the feeder tray that can hold the largest amount of paper stock. This would allow the customer to run longer job runs with less operator interaction with the system.
