DETAILED DESCRIPTION

    Generally pitch and yaw drives are utilized in wind turbine systems. Conventional pitch and yaw systems which are utilized in wind turbine systems make use of high speed induction or synchronous machines which are connected to a gearbox with high gear ratio to obtain high output torque at the pinion. However, such a system is less efficient. It would be feasible to reduce the size of the gearbox or eliminate it altogether.

    Most of the conventional pitch and yaw drives utilized in wind turbines comprise a high speed machine with high-gear-ratio gearbox. Figure 1 illustrates

a conventional pitch and yaw drive which utilizes synchronous or induction machine with a high-gear-ratio gear box.

    Hence there is a need for a low weight and low cost-potential pitch and yaw drive with low-gear-ratio of the gearbox or elimination of the gearbox to achieve high efficiency.
