Abstract

After medical images are recorded by an appropriate image recording system, they are mapped to a particular task flow within a medical software application. Subsequently, the clinical administration assigns the work items to particular roles. Each user role covers a various number of different users. Any user of a role can pick out these work items and process them. After processing is done, the user assigns the work item to another user of another role for further processing. Up to know all users have to login to the application via username and password to know which work items are assigned to them. If a user from a previous role has completed a work item and sent it to the next role, he has to inform the user of that particular role.

In the following it is proposed to implement an information and warning functionality within medical software applications which informs each user for example via SMS (Short Message Service), whenever a work item is assigned to this particular role. The proposed functionality can be enabled by each user in the user control setting page within the application, as depicted in Figure 1. Once a user of the particular role picks a work item, an email with further details, which are needed for processing, is sent to that user. If none of the users of the assigned role pick the work item, after a specific amount of time a warning message is sent...
