A method and system for improving retrieval of social media posts based on a location and frequency of posting social media is disclosed.  The location is the place from where social media is posted on a social networking site.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for improving retrieval of social media posts based on a location and a frequency of posting social media.  A user is represented based on a location of posting social media and the number of social media posts made on a social networking website.  The location of the user may be obtained from the social media postings.  For example micro blogging messages posted on a micro blogging website include GPS coordinates indicating a location from where the messages were posted.  The location can be a center of mass (CoM) of the location of previous social media posts and the variance around them.  Every social media post is augmented with information of the user who posted the social media post.  The information includes the number of social media posts and the probability of the social media post given the location statistics.  This can be computed by fitting a Gaussian around the CoM.  A lower probability means the social media post is from a place less likely to be frequented by the user.  Thereafter, the information is used to assign weights to the social media posts fo...
