Disclosed is a method of finding a name to add in a buddy list through peer-biased proximity. A direct or indirect clue may be used to find an individual to add in the buddy list. In an embodiment, if a user remembers either the forename or the surname of an individual, the user may still be able to find the individual based on recent social interactions the user has had with individuals having the known forename or surname. To resolve conflicts where a known forename or surname corresponds to more than one individual, a tree structure is generated with a list of names of the individuals having the same forename or surname and based on recent social interactions with the user. Here, social interactions may be through mediums such as emails, phone, fax, voice, data, IM, eMeetings, etc. The user's interactions with individuals having the known forename and surname are presented to the user as a social graph. The user may then choose the most likely match.

In an example, if the user wishes to chat with an individual whose first name is "X", relevant interactions of the user with individuals having first name "X" is presented on a social graph. Individuals with the most recent interactions may be prioritized. Thereafter, the user may choose a relevant match from the social graph.
