Disclosed is a method and system for automatically determining communication parameters for Business to Business (B2B) communication.

A standard document format, "b2b-sdl" is created, wherein the standard document format describes the communication capabilities, requirements, and preferences of a company that wishes to engage in B2B communication. In a scenario, where two companies decide to establish a communication, an automated process examines "b2b-sdl" documents for both the companies. Thereafter, a match meeting the preferences of the two companies for communication is determined.

An XML document may be developed that includes information required for a B2B communication. The XML document describes the types of information that may be exchanged, communication channels over which information can be exchanged, and the types of information that a communication channel can support. Each communication channel indicates options that are acceptable. For example, a communication channel, "XYZ" allows for transport security.

Additionally, it is desired to provide information on credentials for communication. Consequently, a "b2b-sdl" document is required to declare a public key. For example, a company using the "XYZ" communication channel can choose to use a public key infrastructure for authentication.
