Improved Printer and Supplies Compatibility Control

Disclosed is a method for improving printer and supplies compatibility control. This is applicable to printers with keyed supplies. Improved printer and supplies compatibility control is achieved by allowing for a variety of criteria, keying data and resulting actions.

A compatibility manager evaluates the predetermined compatibility criteria using keying information data from the printer and supply. Next, the criteria specified action is executed. A plurality of different keying information data locations and values are allowed in printer and or supply.

One or more specified criteria are allowed. Criteria are algorithms or rules that define what actions (such as printing or no printing) are taken and when based on the defined variables. The criteria are pre-defined and may be modified as desired. Criteria include logical rules encompassing one or more variables and specify one or more actions to take if criteria are satisfied. See Figure for a system diagram.
