Abstract

A method of filtering web search results for a web search query based on a user’s recent system activity related to the web search query is disclosed.

Description

Disclosed is a method of filtering web search results for a web search query based on a user’s recent system activity related to the web search query.  There exist systems which predict the user’s search intention based on the past browser activity of the user, however, if the user does not have any previous search queries in the browser that may be related to the current query, the search results may not meet the search intention.  In such cases, web search results may accurately predict and meet the user’s search requirement based on information about the user’s recent system activity related to the search query.

Information about the user’s recent system activity may include, but is not limited to one or more of a document being written, a multimedia presentation being consumed, and a document being read.  Alternatively, the system activity information may include one or more of user interaction, usage pattern and system search queries.  The information about a user’s recent system activity is obtained and used to filter the web search results.  An exemplary but non limiting method of obtaining the information may be through a hook.  The hook may function as an interrupt and a logger to track communica...
