A method to provide business intelligence to optimize distribution of fuel and detect fraud using supply analytics and consumption patterns

Energy consumption and management is a key problem to be addressed in the continuing shortage of fuel, and continued depletion of natural resources. This needs to be addressed both from the perspective of governments in helping greener environments, as well as oil and natural gal industries and business in order to optimize production and supply of fuel. Currently, usage of fuel (petrol/diesel) by vehicles for transportation is the primary means of fuel consumption. In such situations, businesses need a mechanism by which they can gain insight about how fuel is distributed, consumed, and how to improve supply chain logistics to meet supply-demand. Also, given increasing practices of adulteration of fuel in supply, and resulting in reducing confidence levels of consumers, businesses and governments need to take steps to effectively address this.

In order to achieve this, methods are needed for businesses to turn their information about fuel supply, distribution and consumption, to gain insight to optimize fuel distribution, and consumption. In order to increase consumer confidence, and effective governance and to manage reputation, approach is needed where consumers can depend on trusted third party or mechanism to detect and report fraud. In order to do this, it is important that there is a system in place that allows producers and govt to help manage fuel distribution and supply based on consumer fuel consumption levels.

As outlined, another significant threat that contributes to the environment pollution is the usage of adulterated fuel. Many times consumers are unaware that they are using adulterated fuel. Either due to fuel supply shortage or to gain economic benefits, pump owners adulterate the fuel by adding additional additives which makes the fuel quality beyond the permissible limit. When this fuel is burnt by the vehicle, the smoke emitted by the vehicle will be much more harmful to the environment. Today there are several devices existing to check if the fuel is adulterated or not, but these devices are very much limited in their usage and functionality. While there are technology where individual gas stations may have indicators, we do not have a system in place that monitors the adulterated supply of fuel into the vehicle and take immediate actions (like stopping the outflow of fuel from the pump, or triggering central systems indicating there is sale of adulterated fuel)
