Disclosed is a method and system for exchanging information about a product with a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) corresponding to the product using a Quick Response (QR) code. A QR code is associated with an item for providing additional information/advertisements for the item and related items. The additional information/advertisements may be embedded in the QR code. Similarly, the additional information/advertisements may be stored in a URL embedded in the QR code. In an exemplary scenario, when a QR code placed on an item is scanned by a user using a scanning device, the user is routed to a URL embedded in the QR code. Accordingly, the user may browse through the additional information/advertisements available on the URL.

In another exemplary scenario, when a user captures a picture of the item with the QR code being the main subject of the picture, the user is routed to the URL embedded in the QR code. In yet another exemplary scenario, when the QR code is not the main subject of the picture, the picture is sent to the URL embedded in the QR code. Therefore, user intent is determined as the user takes the picture of the item and accordingly additional information/advertisements are rendered to the user. Otherwise, the picture is forwarded to the URL and associated with other information of the item and related items.
