Disclosed is a method and system for managing infrastructure of a data center via a mobile device. The mobile device is configured to identify physical location of a member within the data center. The mobile device may be one of, but not limited to, a tablet and a smart phone. Real time environmental information and Information Technology (IT) equipment information may be retrieved from the mobile device by the member. Using Voice over IP (VoIP) via existing technologies in the data center allows the member within the data center to communicate with other members located outside the data center. In an aspect, the member can access real-time data based on the physical location of the member.

The mobile device is configured to identify physical location of the member within the data center via one or more of wireless technologies such as, but not limited to, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Global Positioning System (GPS), Ethernet wireless access points, Bluetooth, video camera and scanner. In an aspect, the location of the mobile device is precisely pinpointed using multiple existing technologies such as talking lights. In another aspect, the device location is precisely pinpointed using triangulation.

Based on identification of the physical location of the member, the mobile device retrieves environmental measurements of the data center. The environment measurements may include information related to, but not limited to, temperature, relative humidity, particulate size and corrosion. In addition, the mobile device dynamically retrieves environmental measurements as the member moves throughout the data center. For example, if the member moves from a hot area to a cool area of a raised floor of the data center, then the mobile device can retrieve information relating to temperature and humidity dynamically. A sensor - reader type device can be attached to the mobile device to obtain the environmental measurements. In an aspect, the sensor-reader type device measures temperature and humidity.
