Cached version, of the data to be downloaded, from a sharing user’s mobile device is used to enable faster transfer of data to other users in the sharing user’s vicinity.

Disclosed is a method for mobile device caching and file sharing based on social network relationships.

The method provides for mobile device caching and file sharing amongst users of a network. A person may find some content they would like to share with a bunch of people. When that content is shared over a network of users through a mobile device, the shared content is available in cached form on the mobile device as well. The method disclosed herein uses this content in cached form to provide for faster download of data. To download the shared data, another user, authorized to download the data, can request the sharing user through any adhoc network. When the authorized user is in the sharing user's vicinity, connections such as Bluetooth, infrared, WiFi network, among others, may be utilized.

In an embodiment, a sharing user A may share some content with a number of users in a network via email or instant message or upload on a social network. This shared content is cached on user A's mobile. When user A thus shares content with other users, they are granted access to the cached version of the content file from person A's mobile device.
