Automatic Conversion Of Workflow Definitions To A New Workflow Environment

Disclosed is a method and system for automatically converting an existing workflow definition to work with a new case management solution. The conversion may be performed to utilize an advanced product or technology that is compatible with the case management environment.

The disclosed method and system provides code to perform the conversion. The code iterates through each of the maps in the existing workflow definition, and edits one or more expressions that reference the existing workflow fields. Subsequently, the modified workflow definitions are saved in a suitable format.

Consider an example of converting an existing Business Process Management (BPM)

workflow definition to a case management "Task" workflow in a Case Manager solution.

The disclosed method and system provides code to change an existing BPM workflow definition base class to CaseWorkObject. Subsequently, the code iterates through each of the maps in the workflow definition, and edits any expression that references the workflow fields. Expressions referencing workflow fields may be changed to reference case object properties. The code adds an F_CaseFolder prefix to each

workflow field that maps to a case object property. Thereafter, post assignments are added for the user steps as needed. Finally, the modified workflow definition is saved in XPDL format.
