Abstract

A method and system for creating virtual hyperlinks of web pages for search engine indexing is disclosed. The method and system stores a code corresponding to a web page in server and provides a search engine crawler with simple static web pages instead of rich and dynamic web pages.

Method And System For Creating Virtual Hyperlinks Of Web Pages For Search Engine Indexing

Disclosed is a method and system for creating virtual hyperlinks of web pages for search engine indexing. The method and system uses a modified crawler webpage, a virtual Uniform Resource Locator (URL) and a virtual web page to provide simple and static web pages to a search engine crawler. Further, the method and system replaces a code associated with the web page with a conventional hyperlink such that the search engine crawler can follow the conventional hyperlink to index the web page. The conventional hyperlink may correspond to the virtual URL. The code may enable one of a browser interaction which returns a new page from server and an Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) interaction that refreshes one or more part of the web page content and returns a new and modified web page.

In an embodiment, an additional web page may be used for creating the virtual web page in the AJAX interaction. The virtual web page may not have a physical form and therefore may be created by performing one of executing a code associated with the additional web page that has a physical form and using the virtual web page as a sub layer of the additional web page. The virtual page is then represented by the virtual URL which points to the web page and a path leading to the web page that has the physical form. The path may contain information to locate the code that is required for navigation.

The method and system uses the virtual URL in place of the code and sends the virtual

URL to the search engine crawler, wherein the virtual URL is created dynamically by

using the code. The search engine crawler then uses information associated with the virtual URL to locate the code and invoke the code on the server to obtain the virtual page.

In another embodiment, the method and system uses existing technologies to generate the virtual web page and the virtual URL. A browser testing tool may be used for

recording the web page navigation in the existing technologies and then later use the

web page navigation to locate the code and the virtual web page. Additionally, a browser debugging tool may be used to ignore non-hyperlinked navigation and conventional hyperlinked navigations. When the browser testing tool det...
