A method and system for showing targeted advertisements in a smart television during broadcasting of a regular television channel is disclosed.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for showing targeted advertisements in a smart television (TV) during broadcasting of a regular TV channel.

Typically, generic advertisements are transmitted along with usual TV content during broadcasting of a regular TV channel.  An advertising service provider may use behavioral, demographic, social and local targeting capabilities to make advertisements relevant and targeted.

In a smart TV, viewers can login to various applications and browse through one or more web pages.  If a viewer logs into an application of a service provider in the smart TV, then the service provider can directly fetch corresponding information from a profile of the viewer.  The information may include behavioral, demographic, social, and local targeting information.  Further, the interest areas of the viewer may be identified based on kind of applications the viewer accesses on the smart TV.  Different applications in the smart TV may be applications for sports, movies, business, news or kids.  Alternatively, an option may also be provided to the viewer to customize the interest area in the smart TV.
