Abstract

Disclosed is a system, applied to mobile devices, that enables cross-app data sharing and collection in order to surface the pertinent information based on the subject that is of interest at the time. The invention collects and analyzes the best practices of user visualizations and enables data mining across multiple mobile apps to collect the data and metadata. This analysis allows the visualization to dynamically adjust and change based on the user’s needs.

Having a large number of applications (e.g., 30-50) on a mobile device can pose a problem for users in that it slows their ability to quickly find the applications (apps) that they need in an on-demand fashion. As the number of apps on mobile devices increases, so does the importance of automating the extraction/presentation of the information that is relevant to the user at the time.

Example of the Problem:


John Doe has a business meeting in 30 minutes and needs to gather information from multiple resources (apps), emails, and files located on his mobile device. However, no view exists for the data being discussed. The data for the meeting could be contained within an application, spreadsheet, XML file, or some other format; however, there is no time to create and consolidate the data into a mash-up/dashboard view in time for the meeting.

Many times, it is a manual process for the manager to decide the best visualization (e.g., dashboard with bar charts, line charts, heat maps, tag cloud, treemap, etc.) to expose the data for analytics. There are best practices to present certain data sets in a particular way, but the manager is unaware of these optimal dashboard presentations especially when accessing and using multiple apps on a mobile device.

• AUTOMATIC RULES DRIVEN DATA VISUALIZATION SELECTION. [1] The existing patent does not address recognizing optimal data visualizations via analysis of application usage from multiple users. By continually collecting information about what visualizations are used with certain data sets, the rules in the system disclosed herein are dynamic and constantly refined over time. The proposed solution is unique from the existing patent because of the dynamic self-generation of new views based on the users profile and historical data viewed.


• Automated generation of dashboards for scorecard metrics and subordinate reporting. [2] This solution allows a visualization to be generated on metadata stored on a particular database, but it does not allow for automatic generation of the visualization based on the data set structure being evaluated. The existing patent does not address recognizing optimal data visualizations via analysis of application usage from multiple users.


• AUTONOMIC BUSINESS PROCESS PLATFORM AND METHOD. [3] This solution allows visualization/dashboard views to be generated based upon the activity and data being accessed. The existing patent does not select an optimal dashboard presentation depending on data set structure.

This disclosure is focused on providing the ability for mobile users to have a mash-up/dashboard view on their mobile devices by having analytics to:
