Method and rules to get information and the identity of an incoming phone caller

Sometimes it is possible to receive a phone call coming from an unknown phone number; in other words, it can happen that a person does not have information about the person who is behind the number that he/she is getting a phone call from. This can happen for several reason, like not having the number of the incoming person, or when the caller has changed his/her phone number, and so on. We are obviously not considering numbers that are masked.

In those cases, user could also decide not to answer the phone because he/she does not know anything about the caller, for safety reasons; but when the caller is actually a trusted one, this situation can lead to a a failure in the communication between the two persons with all the possible consequences of that.

This disclosure proposes method that tries to retrieve information about the identity of an incoming caller when this is not known by the user. It is focused on rules to restrict the people to be involved in the search and criteria to apply to retrieve the information.

User must establish a sort of trusted network, that is he/she must identify a set of contacts (from the personal contacts list) from which he/she could receive information whenever an "unknown phone number call" is received. When a phone call is received, if the incoming phone number is not found by the users personal phone on the contact list, the proposed method will trigger a "contact request" towards all the users in the trusted network, according to some user-specified policies.

User will wait a certain strict time interval to get a response for the previously sent contact request. If a response is received from some peer from the trusted network, the proposed method will:
- show the received information on the user phone display, so that user can understand who is actually calling him/her;
- create (or integrate) a new entry in the user contact list with the received information about the calling number.

If no response is received in a this time interval, the method will try to search information about the calling number on public services available on the network; if some information is retrieved inside another time interval, this information is used as in the previous point. To speed up the search both of them could be performed and the first information provided used. If, also in this case no information is obtained, the proposed method will warn the user that no information could have been obtained for that phone number.

The phone number will be placed inside a "unknown persons list" and, in a "off-line moment", that is when the user is not using the phone, the proposed method will try to search again for that user (sources can update their contact list), this time without time constraints that happen when the call is received (in fact, user must have information in a few seconds, otherwise the phone caller could void the call it...
