Disclosed is a method and system for calculating an optimized trip route based on real-time store statistics. The method and system utilizes real-time availability of purchase items at stores and real-time store statistics along with an optimized list of items for calculating the optimized trip route.

In a scenario, calculating the optimal trip route includes analyzing a list of trip requirements. Calculating the optimal trip route further includes determining a set of nearby destinations capable of fulfilling each of the trip requirements. In addition, calculating the optimal trip route includes optimally selecting a subset of the nearby destinations to be visited. In accordance with the scenario, the optimal selection of subset of nearby destinations is based on factors such as, but not limited to, determining least number of destinations, shortest total trip time, and shortest total trip mileage.

In a scenario, the least number of destinations that fulfills the availability of all the items is determined by retrieving inventory of stores located at various destinations. Inventory of stores include historical purchasing data, number of items in store, wait-time, amount of people in store and so forth. The shortest trip time is determined by retrieving estimated wait times from at least one of the destinations and calculating travel time between destinations. The method also includes providing a customer-configurable policy for indicating if the number of stops, trip time or trip mileage are of preferred optimization criteria.

After optimally selecting the subset of the nearby destinations to be visited, calculating the optimal trip route includes optimally proposing a route that visits each of the selected destinations to be visited.

In a scenario, the method allows determining the refresh rate of the store data. The refresh rate is determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, amount of people in a store, number of items in a store, wait-time, historical purchasing data.
